Other Complimentary Therapies
Alongside hydrotherapy, we provide access to a range of complementary treatments that support your dog’s recovery, comfort, and overall wellbeing. Sessions take place in our dedicated treatment room, where we work closely with trusted professionals to deliver therapies such as acupuncture and laser therapy. These gentle, non-invasive treatments can be used in combination with hydrotherapy or on their own to help reduce pain, improve mobility, and promote relaxation. What is Canine Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that helps relieve pain, improve mobility, and support your dog’s overall wellbeing. Using ultra-fine needles placed in specific points, it stimulates nerve pathways, boosts circulation, and encourages the release of the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals. Many dogs become deeply relaxed or even sleepy during a session.
While chronic pain (such as arthritis) is one of the most common reasons for use, acupuncture also offers potential benefits for muscular or spinal conditions, gastrointestinal and urinary disorders, and neurological cases when used alongside traditional veterinary care.
Acupuncture can be used in tandem with hydrotherapy or as a standalone therapy — each plan is tailored to your dog’s individual needs.
Laser Therapy at York Canine Hydro
Laser therapy is a safe, gentle, and pain-free treatment that can make a real difference for dogs struggling with stiffness, arthritis, or reduced mobility. Using a special therapeutic light, it helps reduce inflammation, ease pain, and speed up natural healing in muscles and joints. Many dogs find the sessions relaxing, and owners often notice them moving more freely and comfortably afterwards.
How It Works
The laser uses light at specific wavelengths to stimulate the cells in your dog’s body. This encourages better blood flow, reduces inflammation, and helps cells repair more quickly. It also triggers the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals, giving your dog lasting comfort without medication.
When It Can Help
Laser therapy is particularly beneficial for:
-
Arthritis and joint pain
-
Hip or elbow dysplasia
-
Recovery after injury or surgery
-
Muscle strains or stiffness
Sessions are quick, comfortable, and completely non-invasive — your dog simply rests while the laser is applied to the affected areas. Most dogs enjoy the experience and often become calm or even sleepy during treatment.
Laser therapy works brilliantly alongside hydrotherapy or as a standalone treatment, offering gentle support to keep your dog active, mobile, and enjoying life to the fullest.
